Essential Warren Beatty Films

The last of the red-hot movie lovers, Warren Beatty had them swooning in the aisles beginning in 1961, when he played a sexy gigolo in The Roman Spring of Mrs. Stone and the lover who drove Natalie Wood to a nervous breakdown in Splendor in the Grass. Downright gorgeous and incredibly charismatic, Beatty cut a swath through Hollywood with breakthrough films such as Bonnie and Clyde, McCabe and Mrs. Miller, and Shampoo, using his box-office clout to help usher in the '70s era of counterculture filmmaking. Never content to rest on his good-looking laurels, Beatty sought to stretch his talents as an actor and filmmaker, making his directorial debut with Heaven Can Wait and nabbing an Oscar for directing Reds. His legendary bachelor exploits came to an end in 1991 when he married his Bugsy costar, Annette Bening.
