Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen

Catherine Morland, a young woman who feels destined to become a heroine (like the ones in Gothic romances), is from a small provincial village. She is invited by a wealthy neighbor to accompany her to Bath, one of the most fashionable watering places of the day. At Bath she is carried away with affairs of the heart which labor clumsily toward unsatisfactory conclusions.
Jane Austen seems to be telling us that when we court dreams we wake to foolishness. In NORTHANGER ABBEY, Jane Austen's cool, ironic humor, stylish prose and beautifully constructed plots are still capable of charming a new generation of readers.
