Jean-Philippe Rameau (1683-1764) was the last of the great composers
of the French Baroque (that is, before the revolution). He was first rediscovered
in the 20th century for his imaginative harpsichord works and chamber music,
but he wrote some of the finest operas of the entire 18th century. Here
