The Band Recommendations

With roots that stretch back to the '50s, the Band are one of rock's most long-lived and influential outfits. The group--Canadians Richard Manual, Garth Hudson, Rick Danko, and Robbie Robertson and Arkansas native Levon Helm--backed Bob Dylan in the mid '60s before cutting eight albums between 1968 and 1978, when they signed off following the star-laden Last Waltz. The group re-formed sans Robertson and recorded some surprisingly vital material.
